Click here to Listen Live! (during Friday games only) Blue Devils cage Tigers early with 30-point surge By Kris Freeman White House Football White House 36, DeKalb County 14 (The News Examiner) When DeMarqus Payne darted for 52 yards and a touchdown on the first offensive play of the game for White House, the Blue Devils set the table for a 36-14 victory over visiting DeKalb County. White House (6-2, 4-0) returned home after a 2-1 road trip and has now won three straight games heading into a dynamite Region 4-3A clash with unbeaten Station Camp. The Bison come into Dewey H. Whitson Stadium Friday having gone 17-1 in their last 18 regular season games, including a big shutout of White House in week nine of 2006. DeKalb County was eliminated from postseason contention, falling to 1-7 and 0-4 in region play. White House clinched a playoff spot for the 22nd time in 23 years and 16th season in a row, but the last region title came while a member of Region 6-4A in 2004. "The most important thing about tonight was that we get to play in week 11," said White House head coach Jeff Porter. "We have to continue to get better and we are guaranteed to get to play for three more weeks." Hunter Poteete and the Tigers were impressive moving the football, completing 17-of-26 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown, but DeKalb County was shutout until midway through the third quarter when White House had built a 33-0 lead. Payne's opening touchdown made it 7-0 with 9:26 left in the first quarter, then Bryan Dixon cashed in a 10-yard run after Michael Barrett hauled in a 36-yard reception and stepped out of bounds inside the red zone. Payne added the two-point rush for a 15-0 lead. Cody Allen scored from five yards away in the second quarter, his first touchdown since week four of 2006. Allen has worked back into playing shape after a terrible auto accident in the spring kept him off the field for the first half of the season. Aussie Light rolled right and connected with senior Kirk Fulghum on the two-point pass for a 23-0 edge. With 5:18 to play in the first half, Bryan Dixon scored from 45 yards away, despite losing his footing at the 34-yard-line and nearly diving head first to the dirt. Dixon stumbled forward, kept his feet and then darted the remaining 28 yards for a miraculous touchdown run. Zack Trobaugh kicked his second extra point for a 30-0 halftime lead. Trobaugh added a 22-yard field goal in the third before Poteete hit J.J. Herriot for a 13-yard touchdown, and then Brent Collier scored on a 10-yard run. Juan Ruiz added both extra points for a 33-14 score. Trobaugh hit a 40-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, the longest of the season, for the 36-14 final, as White House rotated substitutions. Kody Littles led the defense with five tackles and three sacks, while sophomore Zach Byrd had 10 tackles and rushed eight times for 34 yards on offense. Zack Duty and Michael Barrett both had half a sack and six tackles. Taylor Parks had a sack of Poteete for the fourth total in the game. Collier rushed three times for 74 yards including a 61-yard run, while Payne led the Blue Devils with 89 yards on just six carries. Dixon's two touchdowns came on just five runs for 68 yards. Ten players carried the ball for White House for 34 rushes and 325 yards. Trox Greenwade was 3-of-6 passing for 62 yards, while Light completed 1-of-4 for 11 yards.
